Installation is fairly simple, assuming you are one of the few that owns a garage welder, and more importantly knows how to use it! Otherwise your are in the same boat as us, looking for a friend or local shop that can do the install for you. It took Steve from Total Control about 3 hours to prep the frame rails, cut notches for the traction masters, and finally weld them in place. You may need to spend a few minutes moving fuel lines and parking brake linkages in order to allow room for the welder. Note that if you plan to use kit two, the crossover brace, there are some critical measurements you should take before welding the subframe connectors. The width between the rear boxes of the connectors must be 35 1/4", otherwise the crossover will not fit.

If you have Shelby style underride traction bars, there is a slight modification which is neccesary. The rear box of the subframe connector will not readily clear the welded bracket of the underride bar. Steve said this is a common problem, and they have an easy solution. A notch needs to be cut out of the rear box in the subframe connector. Steve then recommends welding around the notch to strengthen the area. Ideally if you can weld the subframes in first, then install the underride bars, this makes for an incredibly strong chasis. During a hard launch the weight and force transfer from the traction masters would directly transfer to the subframe connectors, which would plan the rear end and tires hard towards the ground. Traction masters welded simply to the stock subframe rail, while still somewhat effective, is really a poor design, since the frame rail is so thin.

Kit two is a precision tig-welded piece. Total Control welds each crossover section in a custom jig to ensure precise geometry between all the tubing. If your car sees open-track, autocross, or even serious abuse at the drag strip, kit two will do wonders for eliminating body flex and twist under the most severe conditions. It is a bolt in piece that may require exhaust modifications, and will require drilling the appropriate holes through the subframe connectors and frame rails.

Notch
You'll need to notch this section if you have traction masters.

Cut Notch
Cut the notch out with a hacksaw or cutting wheel.

Weld Notch
Weld completely around the notch for added strength. This is a high load and stress area.
